6 Years In Hell...
A Valentine's Day Message, February 14, 2008:
Greetings from Shamrock, Texas - better known to most locals as either "Shamerock, Texas" or simply "Hell on Earth".
We arrived in Shamrock six years ago, on February 14th, 2002, with dreams of helping both the previous owners and management of (what was then) KRMN-FM as well as helping the city of Shamrock by paying out - in full - the outstanding debt owed on the "furniture, fixtures and equipment" (quoted EXACTLY from the loan agreement) of the radio station. We had dreams of owning our own business and of having completely paid off that business upon arriving here as there was no pending foreclosure on the "furniture, fixtures and equipment" at the time.
Little did we know that these were some very silly dreams as there was an entire network of drugs, crime and corruption that had already drawn-up plans for an illegal (in civilized places even if not in Shamerock, Texas) seizure of the radio station for either re-sale to a "friend of the board" - Shamrock Economic Development Corporation (at a tremendous loss that would place the station in the hands of someone "controllable") or for resale (at a tremendous profit) to someone who would remove the station to another town.
Being completely unaware of the conspiracy, we replaced most of the equipment (with cash out of pocket) and set about doing that which all radio stations generally do in order to ingrain themselves upon the local community: We SUPER-SERVED Shamrock, Wheeler, Wellington and the local area. We cut our ad-rates in half, gave away FREE live remote broadcasts for community events, new businesses and anyone who seemed to be in need of publicity for just about any reason.
As long as we were giving, the community seemed to tolerate us, at best. We kept being told things such as, "The people who had that radio station before you were not too well liked in town. Just give it some time and the town will come around and see that your station is a good thing for the area."
As my wife and two little girls (ages 8 and 4, at the time) had not yet moved to Shamrock, we continued to operate the radio station as a truly "community-based" radio station. If there was a community benefit or a community event of any kind, we were there! If someone's house burned, we were on the air seeking donations to help them out. If a storm rolled through (very common in this area) we were on the air with news and information!
Then, during July of 2002, just after my wife and children had left our previous home and moved to Shamrock, I was suddenly informed that "the radio station ain't for sale to you because we have a 'local boy' in mind who wants to move back to town to be near his parents. But, we might let you stay on as his employee."
Having long since consulted with attorneys and, with the previous licensee's having filed an application for transfer of the license some time before this "mandate" was issued, this was both a bit of a shock and a bit of an astounding revelation as we were completely aware that, "furniture, fixtures and equipment" aside, the city of Shamrock, Shamrock Economic Development Corporation, David Rushing and/or no one else had any form of legitimate claim to the radio station. We also knew that their "claims" to the "furniture, fixtures and equipment" were severely limited in that the agreement only stretched so far as to encompass "furniture, fixtures and equipment" that were the properties of Jersey Boy Media, the people with whom David Rushing had entered into an extremely questionable loan arrangement.
But, on Monday, July 29th of 2002, David Rushing, Jerry Bob Jernigan and Tom Velasquez burst into the radio station and Jerry Bob Jernigan made that infamous announcement that still causes our children to wake up with nightmares: "Y'all git up and git out! Don't touch nuthin' cause I sure would hate ta see these little girls git hurt! This here's our radio station now and we takin' it over!"
Thus begins the story of the "hospitality" of Shamrock, Texas. From the "I'll take what I want even if I have to kill you to do it" attitude of David Rushing to the "I can make the evidence say anything I want it to 'cause the DA (the area's largest drug user and drug dealer) is my friend" attitude of Rick Walden.
From the lying former police chief who testified - under oath - that his signature on an advertising contract was "a forgery" to the jury who completely disregarded the testimony of no fewer than three eyewitnesses who testified that they had been present at the signing and had personally witnessed the man's signing of the document.
From the district attorney who was so fixated on his drug habit that he was totally hell-bent on prosecuting anyone who was capable of "spilling the beans" about his drug empire to his replacement (after he was sent to prison) who is every bit as evil and corrupt as well as unwilling to go back and right the wrongs because: "My office can't stand another investigation." (This says a lot about her dedication to "serving justice", does it not?)
So, as of now, all bets are officially off. I have the court rendered opinion that clearly states that the entire fiasco is due to "an unconstitutional court ruling". That unconstitutional court ruling was drawn-up personally by the crooked replacement DA. I will now begin the process of recovering that which was so clearly and obviously - to those willing to see - stolen from my family by this evil and corrupt local government that makes the criminal acts committed in Tulia, Texas, by "the system" look tame in comparison!
Tulia and Shamrock, Texas, are different in one very basic way: In Shamrock, the crooks are still getting away with the crimes so much so that David Rushing can often be seen on the street bragging about his "latest conquest".
I submit to you that, so long as I am capable of repeating these truths and of presenting the evidence to substantiate them, David Rushing's "conquest" isn't such a "clear win" at all. In fact, to any person intelligent enough to look over the evidence (taken, mostly, from their own court records) and to actually read it in detail, there is clearly no option but to realize that the average citizens of Shamrock, Texas, are either extremely stupid, for not seeing what is happening in their town, or extremely afraid of what might happen if they should speak out against this horrible evil that controls each and every aspect of their community.
I submit to you that it is the latter of the two as it is my experience that the average citizen of Shamrock, Texas, is an extremely intelligent individual who has been taught all too well that "bad things happen to those who try to change things".
Now, read on with an open mind and you shall see what it is about which I write.
